Denver metro construction projects: not everyone is happy

On Behalf of | Aug 5, 2017 | Construction Litigation |

I will routinely accord you all due respect, says the owner of one Denver business, “until you step on my toes enough times.”

Although Daniel Appell, the proprietor of the Grateful Gnome brewery, isn’t suffering from sore feet, he is nonetheless feeling less than charitable these days as he sees the potential for the contemplated opening of his business on September 1 come crashing down around him owing to apparent third-party negligence.

Literally.

On June 12, scaffolding from a large construction on an adjacent property gave way, falling on top of the brewery. As noted in a recent article chronicling a high number of complaints over the past year relating to Denver-area construction work, Appell viewed the scaffold collapse as “the last straw.” The contractor next door has also perturbed him in other ways, he says, such as by leaning building materials against his brewery walls.

Appell is far from a solitary voice issuing impassioned calls of concern to Denver building officials. Reportedly, city regulators received more than 700 complaints last year relating to area construction projects, spanning both the commercial and residential realms.

And the trend of “officials getting an earful” continues, with the above-cited media report noting “dozens of development-related complaints as construction projects get underway in many of Denver’s 78 neighborhoods.”

It doesn’t take perception of rocket science proportions to understand why the phone is off the hook at City Hall, implies a construction expert for the metro area.

His mantra: More construction logically yields more complaints.

Construction projects are understandably complex — and sometimes dangerous — endeavors, leading to issues across a veritable ocean of concerns. A Colorado resident or commercial enterprise with questions or concerns regarding any aspect of commercial, residential or government-related development can secure timely answers and diligent legal representation from an experienced Denver-area construction law attorney.
